Conference Description:

Surface water flooding threatens more people and properties in the UK than any other form of flood risk. With the UK Climate Projections warning that winter rainfall could increase by 35%, coupled with an increased likelihood of convective summer storms, it is essential to ensure that our infrastructure is resilient to, and can cope with, increased volumes of surface water.

Achieving this requires working effectively in a landscape of competing demands, complex responsibilities and changing weather patterns. It means ensuring that existing drainage infrastructure is well maintained whilst sustainably building capacity for new development.

As a regular conference on the CIWEM programme, this event will share the latest developments in how various risk management authorities are dealing with surface water flood risk and at the same time effectively delivering wider benefits, for example to amenity and biodiversity.

We are seeking papers on: national strategy (e.g. FCERM strategy, Surface Water Management Action Plan progress), DWMPs, integrated water management, mainstreaming SuDS, partnership working by key stakeholders.
