Conference Description:

In the decade since the UK’s landmark Climate Change Act came into force there has been significant progress to our understanding of future changes in frequency and magnitude of extreme weather-related incidents. Yet buildings, places, people and infrastructure remain vulnerable, and there are significant impacts when disruption occurs.

Stark warnings from the IPCC, Committee on Climate Change, National Infrastructure Assessment and UKCP18 on the inevitable changes to our climate system including increases to extreme rainfall, droughts and coastal water levels and associated risks alongside recent incidents have driven action, however, these have often been focused on the short-term and not strategically prioritised to result in effective improvement in key areas.

This conference will provide an up to date picture of the preparedness for a range of extreme incidents including flooding, freeze-thaw and drought, the lessons learnt from government, critical infrastructure providers and a wide range of other stakeholders from recent events and provide a longer-term view towards the requirements for resilience to our critical infrastructure and communities
