Diabetes and Obesity are related diseases that result in significant morbidity and mortality.
Once considered afflictions of the developed world, they've become twin global endemics crossing all cultures and economic conditions. The cost to care for patients who suffer from obesity, diabetes or both is sobering.

At present, bariatric surgery has been demonstrated to be the most effective treatment option that can dramatically improve both metabolic disorders (as well as several other metabolic diseases). It has been observed over many decades, that bariatric surgical procedures reduced patient weight and improved metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes mellitus involving mechanisms of action other than calorie restriction or malabsorption. Additionally, the improvement observed in the metabolic diseases is in part, independent of weight loss. Therefore, a better understanding of the mechanisms of action of these procedures enables us to investigate the full potential enable us to create even more effective treatments and procedures, vital to controlling the Diabesity pandemic.

The focus of our forthcoming IDMSS 2018 will be the prevalent rapid increase in the relationship between Metabolic surgery, Obesity and Diabetes type 2 and their associated complications.

This Summit is therefore vital to increase the international knowledge of these procedures and stimulate the investigation and development of new and more effective treatments. It will bring together many of the world experts in the fields of metabolic surgery and medicine. A wide range of related topics will be presented, discussed and debated. The range and scope of the program are a must for all clinicians caring for patients suffering form metabolic diseases.
